Happy New Year! Okay, I know I’m a little late, but, for most of us, today is “back to reality” day.  So, I thought I’d provide some ‘golden nuggets’ to brighten your day.

By now, you all know about my obsession with gold (here, here and here are just a few examples), and then there’s my love of geometric decor… put those together and you have items that I’m absolutely obsessed with.

Here are 5 picks I have my eye on.

Any “nuggets” that are catching your eye lately?

Ciao for Now,

♥♥ Vicky

Ahhh, July 4th… BBQ, fireworks, fun in the sun, and most importantly, a day off of work :).  In honor of Independence Day, I thought I’d focus on an outdoor space and keep things festive with a red, white and blue color scheme. I’m not one to embrace the ‘Yankee Doodle’ literal interpretation, so here’s my take on the patriotic patio.

Whether designing an indoor or outdoor space, I love to mix different styles to create a space that feels unique and inviting.  Here’s how I brought the space together:

First I brought in rustic and nautical elements.  The rustic items play off of the existing horizontal wooden panels and preserve the natural feel of the outdoor space. The nautical pieces hint toward the waters that lie beyond the infinity pool.

1. Planter – Anthropologie | 2. Table – Wayfair.com| 3. Light Fixture – Anthropologie | 4. Hammock – Anthropologie| 5. Rug – Wayfair.com | 6. Pillow – bludot.com

Next I brought in modern and contemporary touches both of which add pops of color.  The modern elements follow the architectural details of the home, while the contemporary elements tie everything together creating a cohesive and functional space.

1. Bench – Wayfair.com| 2. Lounge Chair – similar lexmod.com| 3. Dining Chair, 4. Vase, 5. Pillow, 6. Umbrella, 7. Stool – all Wayfair.com

So, that’s my take on the patriotic patio. Cheers to mixing design styles to create a one-of-a-kind space, and showing patriotism all summer long.

Happy 4th of July!

Color Story: Going Green

chair, end table, flowers, Glitter Guide, green, light fixture, night stand, pendant, pillow, side table, The Life Styled, vase

Today, as I was browsing The Glitter Guide (one of my fave go-to sites for inspiration), I came across the latest ‘Style At Home’ piece featuring Catherine Sheppard of The Life Styled.  I instantly fell in love with her ultra feminine style and quirky accents (love the gold dinosaurs).

On of my favorite vignettes was this one where she accessorizes a console table with beautiful green accents.

I’m absolutely loving this shade of green that adds an air of vibrance to the room and reminds me of summer.  I was so inspired, I decided to scour the web to see what vibrant green pieces I could find.  I was looking for decor in lime and sea-foam shades in particular to keep the summer feel.  Here’s what I found:

1. Flowers – See your local florist 🙂 | 2. Pendant – CX Design, Lumens.com | 3. Chair – Green, 2modern.com | 4. Vase – iittala, 2modern.com| 5. Pillow – PoshTots.com | 6. End Table – Worlds Away, LaylaGrayce.com | 7. Night Stand – UrbanOutfitters.com

Are you looking to incorporate a bit of summer green into your decor?  Any other color you’re obsessing over right now?

Before & After: Living Room

This past weekend was quite productive, most notably I finished re-designing our living room which has been a work in progress.  We were having our first BBQ of the season, so it was good motivation to finish my first project.

BEFORE: Bland room with white walls and vertical blinds… yikes!

You may recall from my Modern Elegance post, I had a general style and color palette in mind (and I knew I wanted a sunburst mirror :)).  My goal was to transform the room playing off of the original charm but adding vibrance, elegance and a little rustic, ethnic charm…

AFTER:

So… how did I do? I’m sure I’ll keep making minor changes over time, but I’m pretty happy with the outcome.  Now… on to the next room!

Sometimes you see a fabric and it’s love at first sight.  Then you start to think, where/how can I use this?

Here are 5 ways to incorporate any fabric into your space.  In this case I’m using DwellStudio’s Vintage Blossom print as an example:

(1) Pillow cover – BertieWoodHouse, Etsy

(2) Serving Tray – Layla Grace

(3) Furniture Upholstery – custom (Modest Maven)

(4) Vase/Container Wrap – Layla Grace

(5) Curtain Panels – Nenavon, Etsy

Any other great ideas to incorporate a fab fabric into your space?

Chic de Mayo

Aztec, bath mat, candle, eclectic, embroidered, lamp, pillow, planter, plaque, pottery, rug, sconce, southwest, Spanish, table lamp, vase, wrought iron

In honor of Cinco de Mayo tomorrow, I thought I’d go on a hunt for chic mexican-inspired decor.  Of course, the key to keeping things stylish is to step beyond the literal (no mexican wrestling masks please).  The non-literal version of Mexican decor includes everything from ancient Aztec art, to traditional Spanish designs, to modern southwestern style.  Vibrant colors, curved wrought iron and clay pottery are just a few design elements that come to mind.

Here are a few picks that work for a Cinco de Mayo fiesta space or an every day contemporary-eclectic room.

Planter – La Fuente Imports

Floor/Bath Mat – Anthropologie

Candle Wall Sconce – Hobby Lobby

Lamp – Zinc Door

Aztec Plaque – Overstock

Embroidered Pillow – Cost Plus World Market

Any mexican-inspired pieces you’re thinking of incorporating into your space?  You can count me in for the Anthropologie mat and the Aztec plaque!

Trend Alert: Southwest Style

19 Monday Mar 2012

I found this rug while browsing Gilt Home and I love it!  It’s so unique and is a prime example of the southwest trend I’ve been seeing so much of lately.

Southwest style tends to have lots of deep, rich colors like the blues and golds in the rug.  It’s often also associated with shades of mauve and turquoise, but sometimes those feel a bit too literal.  It’s all about natural and organic elements, so leather, wood and brass prevail… along with anything in an earth tone.  Most of all, it’s about casual comfort and warmth!

I decided to challenge myself to “furnish” a southwest inspired room… and, since I found my inspiration on Gilt, I designed the whole room with items available on Gilt Home (no, they’re not paying me for this post, it just happens to be one of my favorite sites!) So, here it is… what do you think?

Runner– Nourison│Rug– Nourison│Starburst Mirror– Mirror Image │Kanishka Decorative Pillow– Anichini │Baroque Gold Leaf Floor Lamp– Arteriors Home │Ottoman- no longer available │Sofa– A. Rudin │Trapeze Coffee Table– Central Station │Angelic Bottle Vase– Joe Cariati │Agate Slice– Brenda Houston │Brass Sculpture – Arteriors Home │Leather Reclining Chair– Modern Milano
