Lately, I can’t get enough 80’s-inspired triangle details.  The trend is popping up everywhere, from fashion to jewelry to decor. In this iteration of triangle design, we’re seeing multiple colors presented in a repetitive pattern.  It’s a design aesthetic that feels one part retro and one part chic. I’m obsessed…

A few weeks ago, I came across this beautiful Jonathan Adler table, and instantly fell in love.

This table is such a statement piece, it begs to have an entire space designed around it… and that’s exactly what I’ve chosen to do.  This beautiful table sets the tone for a contemporary and luxe space.

I’ve chosen a stone, cream and navy blue color palette to play off of the marble top and gold base.  Because the table is round and seats 6, I opted for chairs with low-profile arms. I really lucked out and found a beautiful chandelier that mimics the design of the table’s base. In order to not take any attention away from the table, I chose a simple sideboard in a stone color that will play off of the color in the marble table top.  Lastly, I found dishes, wallpaper and accessories that help complete the space. So here it is…

Clockwise from top left: 1. Wallpaper; Graham & Brown | 2. Rattan Charger; Crate & Barrel | 3. Dinnerware; Amazon | 4. Chandelier; Zinc Door | 5. Gilded Tray; Layla Grayce | 6. Framed Fabric; Layla Grayce | 7. Dining Chair; Zinc Door | 8. Dragon Serving Platter; All Modern | 9. Dining Table; Wayfair | 10. Sideboard; Dwell

Now that’s what I call fine dining!

Bedroom Design Gossip Girl Style… xoxo

Last week I came down with a little bit of a bug and decided to stay home from work one day.  In addition to sparing my co-workers my germs, it was the perfect excuse to catch up on 14 (yes 14) episodes of Gossip Girl.

As I was watched, I fell more and more in love with Serena’s bedroom at Blair’s house (no worries if you have no idea who I’m talking about).  Here’s what I mean…

Love, right?!?

So how can you re-create this sophisticated yet whimsical space? So glad you asked 🙂

This bed from Serena & Lily has a similar shape and pattern.  I actually prefer the scalloped edges of this design since it adds a bit more interest.

I heart this bench.  It’s a bit different from the upholstered bench in our inspiration, but this is just so fabulous, and you can find it at Ballard Designs.

Nothing says elegance like grasscloth wall covering.  This particular one is a faux grasscloth, and a bargain from Lowes.  In our inspiration bedroom, grasscloth is only on the accent wall behind the headboard.  Personally, I’d love to see it on all the walls

The wow “piece” in our inspiration bedroom is definitely the abstract pattern created by the butterfly decor above the headboard.  Here are two options (white butterflies & black flowers) both available on Amazon.

This floor lamp and wall sconce are simple yet elegant and look very similar to those in our inspiration room. These can be found at Circa Lighting and Restoration Hardware, respectively.

Last but not least, we have the seating.  I’ve chosen a teal velvet fabric (shown in the swatch) that has a more modern appeal in comparison to the silk green in our inspiration. You can find this chair at Home Decorators Collection.

So, what do you think?  Is there an inspiration bedroom that you’re looking to recreate?  Until next time… xoxo

5 Versatile Ways to Use Fabric

Sometimes you see a fabric and it’s love at first sight.  Then you start to think, where/how can I use this?

Here are 5 ways to incorporate any fabric into your space.  In this case I’m using DwellStudio’s Vintage Blossom print as an example:

(1) Pillow cover – BertieWoodHouse, Etsy

(2) Serving Tray – Layla Grace

(3) Furniture Upholstery – custom (Modest Maven)

(4) Vase/Container Wrap – Layla Grace

(5) Curtain Panels – Nenavon, Etsy

Any other great ideas to incorporate a fab fabric into your space?

Help! My chairs need a makeover!

black and white, blue, chair, Dining Room, fabric, upholstery

When my husband and I moved back to California, we had to furnish our place from top to bottom which meant that we were on a serious budget.  We ended up going to a “big-box” furniture store for a lot of the big pieces… one of which was our dining room set.  While the set has good bones, the upholstery on the chairs have driven me crazy since the day we bought them.  Let’s just say boring, monotone, brown chenille is not my style.

So… I’m embarking on my first DIY re-upholstery project.

Before I get started, I have to choose my fabric.  A couple things to consider:

  • Dining room chairs have a tendency to get food stains so I’ll need a darker color and/or busy pattern to hide the dirt
  • The color palette in our dining room is navy blue and peach… the rug is a navy blue and white Alhambra pattern; the walls, which or landlord has begged us not to re-paint, are peach…

With that in mind, here are options I found at fabric.com

This ethnic print from Magnolia Home is very on-trend.  I think the blue-gray base will complement the navy rug and the cream and tan will work well with the deep wood tones

I mean, can you ever go wrong with black and white and chevron?  This option from Premier Prints would definitely add some flair, and the pattern plays off of the geometry on the chair-backs

I’m considering this Robert Allen option because (1) the gray is a neutral yet contemporary option, and (2) the pattern will add a bit of sophistication to the room which is never a bad thing

This whimsical medallion pattern has both a fun and a formal sensibility. While the base color of this option from Premier Prints is a lighter than I would typically choose for a dining chair, the busy-ness of the pattern will help mask spills

This option from Duralee may be considered the “safe bet”.  The tan color keeps things neutral, but the ribbon pattern adds interest

Last but not least, this over-dyed fabric is to die for! Okay, I’m being dramatic, but I do love this print from Duralee.  Once again, I’m gravitating toward the ethic print, and this one is much darker that the other options… is it too dark?

So… which one should I pick?

Help me decide and I’ll be sure to share the “after” pics!
