I’m Bugging Out Over This Artwork

Something you should know about me… I’m terrified of bugs.  Like all bugs… flies, ladybugs, butterflies… it’s pathetic.  So I was just as shocked as the next girl when I found Kari Herer’s artwork and fell in love with her “bug art”.

Here are my 3 faves…

All artwork available on Kari’s Etsy Page

Curious to hear what you think.  Would you display “bug art” in your home?

Ciao for Now,

♥♥ Vicky

I know today is April Fools and all, but I’m not foolin’ around when I tell you how obsessed I am with anything spotted. The spotted trend is running rampant (in a good way) from decor to fashion, and I can’t get enough.

Here are just a few of the pieces that I’m dying to get my hands on.

See what I mean?!?  So stinkin’ cute!

Keira’s Nursery Final Chapter: DIY Duo

I mentioned before that Keira’s nursery came together with a mix of splurges, bargains and DIY projects, and for this last post I’m highlighting 2 of the DIY projects.

Dresser

This was a super simple DIY! Find a simple white dresser with clean lines, replace the boring knobs with some chic brass hardware and voila!

Slide1

Custom Artwork

This project takes a little more time, but is still super simple.  Start with craft feathers (I used white and pink), dip the tip of each feather in gold metallic paint paint (we know how I like anything gold dipped), and then sprinkle gold glitter on top.  Once the feathers are dry, frame them and you have your own custom one-of-a-kind artwork!

Slide2

Well that officially wraps up the mini-series on Keira’s nursery.  Hopefully you enjoyed it and got a little bit of inspiration along the way.

Coming soon are new installments of the Here & Now series, a host of new trend posts and a brand new series I’m starting this year.

Ciao for now…

♥♥ Vicky

As promised, I’m back with more details on Keira’s nursery.  Last post I highlighted some of the key large pieces in the room, but we all know that they key making a room feel put together is the styling.

Lucky for us, many of the cute pieces in the room were gifts from friends and family, but you really don’t have to spend a ton of money to add some personality to a space.

Well, that’s all for now.  I have just one final post about the nursery that I’ll share over the weekend. Hope you’re enjoying it.

OMG! So, I am completely, totally, 100% obsessed with peach right now!  Who knew the color that was the epitome of the 80’s would make such a come-back?  I mean, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised… you know what the say.. all trends (fashion, interior, or otherwise) are cyclical.

Just looking at my little moodboard makes me smile.  Hopefully it makes you smile too!

Educational and adorable. I completely fell in love with this piece of art and just had to buy it for the nursery.

I’m dreaming of wearing stilettos again (once I give birth and these cankles go away ;-)) This pair is classic but still make a statement.

These coasters are functional, yes… but more importantly, they are gorgeous! A perfect housewarming gift… assuming you’re not on a strict budget 🙂

The new “it” Rug

I think this rug is stalking me. I see some version of it everywhere I look… in stores, on Pinterest, in magazines. It can only mean one thing… I have to have it!

How To: DIY Framed “Art”

10 Wednesday Oct 2012

If you’re like me, you’re always looking for ways to make a high impact statement in a room on a low-impact budget.  DIY framed “art” is one of my favorite ways to add a gorgeous and inexpensive finishing touch to a room (plus it’s super easy).

SUPPLIES: First start with a piece of decorative paper, fabric or gift wrap you love (if using gift wrap, I recommend using one that has a matte finish).  I chose the fabulous paper I was so excited about here.  Next you’ll need a great frame and a picture mat.  Make sure you have double-sided tape and scissors on hand, and you’re ready to DIY.

FINISHED PRODUCT: Put it all together and you’re done… easy as pie!

IN THE ROOM: Assemble two hanging them side-by-side, and you can really make a statement!

BTW: Wondering where to find great paper to get inspired.  These are some of my faves: Papyrus, Paper Source, Snow & Graham & Kate’s Paperie

7 Ways to Showcase Your Animal Instincts

12 Thursday Jul 2012

One of the most important rules in design is to ensure that your space showcases some personality. Animal themed decor is one way to inject a bit of playfulness into any room.  Here are seven ways to display your appreciation of the animal kingdom as well as your fabulous sense of style.

1. Artwork – Fido just got a facelift… and so did your space! The colors in this dog portrait are so vibrant and hip, your room will get an instant dose of personality. {poshtots}

2. Tabletop Accessories – Gold accessories are all the rage, and I’m loving love the gold bird detail on these plates.  The color palette is elegant and contemporary while the birds infuse a bit of whimsy. {laylagrayce}

3. Accent Pillows: How lovely is this peacock pillow? This piece is so versatile it fits with nearly any design style, from traditional to contemporary to rustic. {wellappointedhouse}

4. Wall Decor – What do you get when you mix disco and taxidermy… this bedazzled work of art!  While it’s not the most traditional piece, it’s a fabulous option if your husband insists on mounting a stag’s head in your house 🙂 {zincdoor}

5. Decorative Accessories – This little guy would fit in with any modern decor and is absolutely adorable. For once it’s totally appropriate to discuss the elephant in the room. {allmodern}

6. Wallpaper – This panda bear wallpaper lends cool factor to any space… get it?!? 🙂  When this pattern repeats on the wall, it becomes an abstract and contemporary backdrop to your space. {2modern}

7. Bedding – If the sight of this flamingo bedding conjures up memories of a 1980’s Miami Vice episode… good!  You have just added a fun “conversation piece” to your guest bedroom.  It’s cute, it’s modern… and feels romantic too. {dwell}

Moral of the story?  Trust your animal instincts and have some fun!
