From the runway to Rihanna, tie dye is all the rage.

When it comes to decor, I love tie dye for its ability to bring vibrant color to a space while infusing a laid back vibe. The key to integrating tie dye into your space is to do so sparingly, and stick to white and one other color (no rainbow peace signs please :)). In this case I’m sticking to a blue and white color scheme.

Have you incorporated any tie dye into your space?  If so, I’d love to see a pic.

I don’t know about you, but I’m super excited about the Olympics starting today. I get so sucked in (sometimes too much and I stay up way past my bed-time and hate myself in the morning). In any case, I wanted to wish Team USA (and all the other countries :)) good luck, and am dedicating this post to them.

As for the rest of us who aren’t so athletically gifted, I offer you a way to go for gold anytime.

Framed gold leaf bird; Zinc Door | Gold leaf pendant – Worlds Away; Layla Grayce | Gold flatware; West Elm | Gold leaf mirror; Layla Grayce | Gold leaf table – Worlds Away; Layla Grayce | Gold and linen pillow – Dransfield &Ross; The Well Appointed House | Gold sequins polkadot pillow; West Elm | Gold accent table – Bliss Studio; Zinc Door | Gold and white sideboard – Iannone; 2Modern

Let the games begin!

One of my go-to websites when I’m creating a design board is olioboard.com.  From time-to-time olioboard hosts design challenges where contestants submit virtual design concepts.  Currently they’re running a poolhouse design challenge.  It sounded like fun, so I decided to submit an entry.

Aesthetically, I wanted the room to be fun and whimsical with lots of vibrant colors.  I chose blues and greens to bring the colors of nature and the pool inside. Functionally, there were a couple of things to consider.  I wanted to ensure there was a sitting area meant for relaxing and getting a break from the sun; and I wanted to have an area where people could sit down and enjoy lunch or a snack.

So… here’s the final product…

What do you think?  If you like it, I’d love for you visit the site and vote for my space.

Thanks for all of the support!

If you’re looking to add a little luxe to your space, look no further than tufted furniture.  Tufting details lend a sense of sophistication to a space without going over the top.  I prefer tufted furniture in a neutral or basic color like cream or gray.  No need to over-do it, you often only need one piece and you’ve got instant glam.

Here are a few idea starters for adding tufted furniture to a room in your home.

Trend Alert: Triangles

Lately, I can’t get enough 80’s-inspired triangle details.  The trend is popping up everywhere, from fashion to jewelry to decor. In this iteration of triangle design, we’re seeing multiple colors presented in a repetitive pattern.  It’s a design aesthetic that feels one part retro and one part chic. I’m obsessed…

Today we’re in the kitchen. Often called the heart of the home, it’s the place where families gather and meals are made (or in my case, heated in the microwave).

Lately, I’m seriously intrigued by white kitchens. Whether they be pure white-on-white, or incorporate tonal creams and grays, here’s a collection that I absolutely love.

Fine Dining

A few weeks ago, I came across this beautiful Jonathan Adler table, and instantly fell in love.

This table is such a statement piece, it begs to have an entire space designed around it… and that’s exactly what I’ve chosen to do.  This beautiful table sets the tone for a contemporary and luxe space.

I’ve chosen a stone, cream and navy blue color palette to play off of the marble top and gold base.  Because the table is round and seats 6, I opted for chairs with low-profile arms. I really lucked out and found a beautiful chandelier that mimics the design of the table’s base. In order to not take any attention away from the table, I chose a simple sideboard in a stone color that will play off of the color in the marble table top.  Lastly, I found dishes, wallpaper and accessories that help complete the space. So here it is…

Clockwise from top left: 1. Wallpaper; Graham & Brown | 2. Rattan Charger; Crate & Barrel | 3. Dinnerware; Amazon | 4. Chandelier; Zinc Door | 5. Gilded Tray; Layla Grayce | 6. Framed Fabric; Layla Grayce | 7. Dining Chair; Zinc Door | 8. Dragon Serving Platter; All Modern | 9. Dining Table; Wayfair | 10. Sideboard; Dwell

Now that’s what I call fine dining!

If you’re looking to make a bold statement in a room, one of the easiest ways to accomplish this is to add wallpaper.

When it comes to bold, these wallpapers don’t hold back.  They’re packed with style and each one has its own design story to tell.

1. Southwestern {Urban Outfitters}

2. Art Deco {Graham & Brown}

3.Contemporary {Graham & Brown}

4. Funky/Artsy {Aimee Wilder}

5. Floral {Graham & Brown}

Do you think you’re bold enough to try any of these?

7 Ways to Showcase Your Animal Instincts

One of the most important rules in design is to ensure that your space showcases some personality. Animal themed decor is one way to inject a bit of playfulness into any room.  Here are seven ways to display your appreciation of the animal kingdom as well as your fabulous sense of style.

1. Artwork – Fido just got a facelift… and so did your space! The colors in this dog portrait are so vibrant and hip, your room will get an instant dose of personality. {poshtots}

2. Tabletop Accessories – Gold accessories are all the rage, and I’m loving love the gold bird detail on these plates.  The color palette is elegant and contemporary while the birds infuse a bit of whimsy. {laylagrayce}

3. Accent Pillows: How lovely is this peacock pillow? This piece is so versatile it fits with nearly any design style, from traditional to contemporary to rustic. {wellappointedhouse}

4. Wall Decor – What do you get when you mix disco and taxidermy… this bedazzled work of art!  While it’s not the most traditional piece, it’s a fabulous option if your husband insists on mounting a stag’s head in your house 🙂 {zincdoor}

5. Decorative Accessories – This little guy would fit in with any modern decor and is absolutely adorable. For once it’s totally appropriate to discuss the elephant in the room. {allmodern}

6. Wallpaper – This panda bear wallpaper lends cool factor to any space… get it?!? 🙂  When this pattern repeats on the wall, it becomes an abstract and contemporary backdrop to your space. {2modern}

7. Bedding – If the sight of this flamingo bedding conjures up memories of a 1980’s Miami Vice episode… good!  You have just added a fun “conversation piece” to your guest bedroom.  It’s cute, it’s modern… and feels romantic too. {dwell}

Moral of the story?  Trust your animal instincts and have some fun!

These are very exciting times… my little sister is pregnant with her first child and it’s a girl; I’m going to have another niece! Of course my job as the big sister is to throw a fabulous baby shower. I’ve scoured the web for ideas and thought I’d share my inspiration board with you.

The theme of the baby shower: Vintage-Chic Tea Party
